about

Hello, my name is Cathy Esther Thorne. I write and draw Everyday People Cartoons.
Or I should say, I used to.
I haven’t in a while.
So, what happened?
I’m not entirely sure why I stopped after twenty years, but here are some facts:
- My newspaper syndication and magazine clients were, one by one, shutting down
- I reached my ultimate goal of having a hardcover book published by an actual publisher!
- Someone said something annoying in the comments section
And then I stopped. I don’t recall making a conscious decision to stop. I just stopped.
I was sad and lost for a while, wondering what would come next. I had recently turned fifty and had been self-employed since forever. I wasn’t particularly qualified for any of the jobs I might have wanted — not that I even knew what I wanted.
In the midst of all that wondering, I wandered into a new chapter. While scrolling through local creative opportunities, I came across something that led me toward the perfect next step. Something I now love just as much as I loved drawing cartoons: writing poems on a typewriter at events!
As the years passed, I wasn’t sure what to do with this website. Should I take it down? Am I really done with cartoons?
I decided to leave it be.
I try never to say never, but even if I don't draw another cartoon, they brought me twenty good years, and I’m happy to keep them online for whoever needs a good laugh.
xoxo,
Cathy
