I was invited to be on the wholesale panel at the Maker Conference, because I make stuff from my cartoons. Cards, prints, magnets, books.
We discussed pricing, production, work/life balance, and the ins and outs of running a business when the you create the products you sell.
We also talked about sales representatives, and distributors. I've had both, but don’t anymore. I haven’t figured out how to run an active wholesale product based business and still have time and energy to create.
Maybe one day I will, and for the time being, I'm happy to sell directly at shows, and license my cartoons to companies that focus on wholesaling.
It's good that there are many different ways to make a living as a maker!
